Struggle is your birthright; ZINASU Tells Wits University Students

We, the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) www.zinasu.org  stand firm in our unswerving solidarity and unwavering support for the legitimate student struggles at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

We condemn the unjustified and unjustifiable fee hike at the Institution. Such a genocidal decision will result in many students being forced to drop out of school. Most students at the University are sons and daughters of poor civil servants and the unemployed poor.

We castigate the 16th century dictatorial decision by the senior management of calling police onto the campus. It is an unfortunate reincarnation of the 16 June 1976 madness which left a trail of destruction and caused untold human suffering. Many students lost their lives and may their souls rest in peace.

We encourage the senior management at Wits University to abide by the African Chapter on Human and Peoples rights article 17 (1) and the Univeral Declaration of Human Rights chapter 26 (1) , which clearly state that 'Éveryone has a right to education''

We call upon the Governement of South Africa to strategically intervene and save the obtaining situation at the Wits University, which is threatening to transmogrify the dreams of most students into a melodrammatic nightmare. Most students will be forced to drop out.

We warn the Government of South Africa to move swiftly and address the situation before Wits University become just like the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). UZ is now pale shadow of itself. Student protests and lecturers'  strikes are now weekly events at the University of Zimbabwe.
